Outstanding! even in -20 below 0 Review by New Albany Ohio Multiple Livestock owner large & Small

Well i don't typically endorse products. This water system worked in -20 below zero temperature's this winter. We have 25 hens who lay every day they free range but come back to the barn in the evening with the horse's & cows. This is the best heated system i have tried yet it holds enough water for 4 days with out freezing!!!!
So easy to clean thank you again for having it in stock in one of the coldest winters for small livestock in years.

PS. I forgot to say our turkeys and Large Pekin ducks all had there own units of this product and there was a lot less mess with them as well! good product! for the money.

works but a nuisance Review by regnad

This works fine up to a point. I wrote the manufacturer once in e-mail and once on paper without reply to either, so I'll repeat my design comments here. (1) top hanging handle breaks pretty soon but replacing it with hay twine actually makes it easier to hang the waterer in perfect balance. (2) the lip that fills with water should be taller so that balancing (leveling) the waterer were not so critical -- as it is, the fact that the water comes to the top of the lip means that if you don't level it perfectly you will slowly lose it all. (3) while I accept the necessity of filling a vacuum controlled waterer from the bottom, the rubber stopper is a poor alternative to a screw closure and, in any case, the fill hole should be a funnel not a raised ring (so that spillage goes into the jug, not the floor). All in all, it's a cheap solution -- cheap in both the good and bad senses of the word.

Absolute piece of junk....difficult to fill properly, water drains out if not perfectly horizontal, cheap handle, and only keeps the water thawed within the container NOT in the trough for the chickens....but they seem to like staring at the water they can not get to, so that's fun.

This is the first winter we have had chickens, With the unusually cold temps we've been having here in middle Tennessee, it was almost impossible to keep their water from freezing even with a heat lamp. After searching on the internet, I finally located this heated fountain and, boy, am I glad I did. Even when we had -2 degrees, the water never froze. Great product!

Worst purchase ever Review by Cheryl Gundy

Great for dumping 3 gallons of water into your chicken coop - too bad it's intended use is for when the weather is below freezing.
I purchased this from the local feed store. Needless to say, I should have read reviews first. The plastic is extremely weak and filling it with more then a gallon of water when it is advertised as a 3 gallon only causing the plastic to flex and the bottom portion to fall off, spilling all of the water, usually into the clean coop or onto myself during freezing weather since it is a cold weather product. I'd rate it with less stars if that was an option.

Followup to previous review -- Sub-zero temps a problem Review by Mike

Well, now that our "polar vortex" is past, I can definitively say the heater is good to about zero Fahrenheit. At -7 below zero, water in the tray was frozen solid, though the main chamber still had liquid water in it. Design changes needed: heater needs to overlap the outside water tray, better locking system (have had the same problems others have mentioned with getting soaked when it popped open). Didn't know I could fill it through the bottom, may try gluing the lid on like Glyn mentioned. Don't think top filler will work, difficult to maintain vacuum (which is poor as it is, with water syphoning out the bottom if it is not perfectly level). Mediocre design, but the only thing I've found available so far. Have a home-made heater in the barn made from a galvanized pan and a light bulb, but not feasible for the mobile coop.

Very Happy Review by Lynn Foryan

I ordered this heated poultry fountain which was $8 -$10 cheaper on this site than on any other! I received it in a timely fashion- just in time for the extreme cold temperatures we have been having. It keeps the water thawed even when the wind chill is 10 degrees below 0! I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it highly!!!

Could be a whole lot better Review by Ferne

Hard to flip over to hang. At which point either water sloshes over your feet or worse, the whole base comes off emptying it completely all over the place. Flimsy handle. Base should be screw in, not slide-in. Should be plug on top also to top-fill. Does keep water from freezing once you get it to the point where it's hung. Last straw today; attempted to flip over, slid out of my hands, bottom broke, water all over the place. Never mind, my husband will rig up own heater....

It works great down to about 18 degrees F outside (a little warmer in the coop) and then the water in the tray starts getting icy. I've only had it for around a month so I can't speak to how well it will hold up over time.

Got so tired of the top coming off I glue it on. Then the filler cap broke off the attached lanyard. Then, after all summer, I plug it in last week for the first time and water froze. For 5 chickens, this hasn't done well.

It works Review by Christine

It does work great but is a hassle to fill it the way they say. Why not put the hole (bigger than the current one that is on the bottom) on the top? Then you could secure the base and fill it from the top instead of the bottom and then trying to flip it over without losing all the water.

Design flaws Review by Ella

The bucket allows too much water to flow out making it frustrating to keep from dumping water inside the house as you place it. The plastic handle is flimsy and does not allow adequate handling,
Trying to fill it from the bottom using the rubber stopper requires a small hose to fit inside. I found 3 gallons is too much and a 1 gallon might be easier to handle.

If you want to keep dry do not buy! The base falls off very easily when turning upright or transporting it to its location. At least every other day either I or the coop gets soaked when the base falls off. Just the other day it fell off, went back to the barn to get another pail of water and filled again and if fell off a second time. Took 3 times to fill it and get it in the coop.

The heated chicken fountain is working great. Its easy to refill and the water stays at the right temp at all times. We have had severe cold weather here, it was 9 degrees fahrenheit yesterday, and the water was still good for the happy chickens. Thank you! I wasnt able to find one locally for this price. I will be back!

pretty good so far Review by Mike

Has kept water unfrozen down to 15 degrees F thus far. Only frustration is have to keep it quite level to keep the water from syphoning out. Using it in a mobile chicken coop, so have to keep a variety of boards in the pen to prop up the waterer to keep level.

Item works very well so far. We have had two frosts and the water did not freeze, however it is early. I need to provide another evaluation after winter is over. I would like to have a smaller heated waterer as I have only five chickens.

Doing the job so far Review by Mike

Has worked fine for me, water hasn't frozen so far down to about 15 degrees F. Only frustration is that you have to keep it pretty level or all the water will syphon out. Have it in my mobile coop, and have to use a board to level it when on uneven ground. Otherwise I've been pleased with its performance.
For what it' worth, both of the previous reviews obviously came from one guy out to discredit the product.
