Breckwell Stoves Qualify For the Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency.
Receive up to 30% or $1,500 in Tax Credits for the purchase of any Breckwell Pellet Stove.
On February 17, 2009, the stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) was signed into law. It made significant changes to the Tax Credits available for purchase of energy-efficient property.
Qualifications require meeting various rules and limitations detailed below. Breckwell recommends that you consult your tax advisor for details specifically relating to your individual circumstances.

This new tax credit applies to all such stoves which were/are purchased from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.

Frequently Asked Questions:
For specific details concerning your unique tax position it is recommended that you consult your tax advisor.

How much is the Tax Credit?
30% of the purchase price up to $1,500.

What is this Tax Credit?
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) signed into law on February 17, 2009, includes a 30% consumer tax credit (up to $1,500) for the purchase of 75%-efficient bio-mass (i.e. wood pellet and corn) burning stoves. The credit can be used towards the stove, venting, and installation costs.
Details and Conditions:

  • The Breckwell stove must be first “placed in service” between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.  “Placed in service” is defined by the IRS as when the property is ready and available for use.
  • The Breckwell stove must be installed in a dwelling unit owned and used by the taxpayer as his principal residence in the United States of America.
  • The maximum Tax Credit for Nonbusiness Energy Property is $1,500.
    • For record keeping, receipts of purchase must be saved along with a copy of the manufacturer certification statement.

Amounts paid or incurred in 2009 will be claimed on your 2009 taxes (filed in 2010). Use IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version). It will be available by the IRS in late 2009/early 2010.

    • This credit is provided under the terms of the Internal Revenue Code Section 25(d)(3)(E).

This new tax credit applies to all such stoves which were/are purchased from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.

What Breckwell stoves qualify for the Tax Credit?
The ENTIRE line of Breckwell stoves are so efficient that ALL of the wood pellet and multifuel stoves qualify for this tax credit.

What exactly is a Tax Credit?
Consumers claim the credit on their federal income tax form at the end of the year. The credit then increases the tax refund or decreases the amount the taxpayer has to pay, dollar-for-dollar; whereas, tax deductions simply lower your taxable income.

How do consumers know that this efficiency data is correct?
All efficiency data on Breckwell stoves have been independently generated by Intertek Testing Services, a leading industry testing firm. These third-party, independent testing laboratories ensure the efficiency data is accurate and credible. The testing was conducted in accordance with the CSA B415-1.0-2000 Method for Testing the Performance of Solid-Fuel-Burning Heating Appliances. All of the Breckwell stoves exceeded the 75% efficiency rating required for the tax credit.

How do I receive my Tax Credit?
Amounts paid or incurred in 2009 will be claimed on your 2009 taxes (filed in 2010). Use Tax Form 5695 (2009 Version). The IRS will have this form available by late 2009/early 2010. Be sure to retain your purchase receipt and a copy of the Breckwell Manufactures Certification Statement for your records.

How do I get the Breckwell Manufactures Certification Statement?
It is available at the dealer where you purchased the stove, and on our web-site. Remember to keep this certificate with your records.

How do I get the Breckwell Manufactures Certificate from the web-site?
    Go to www.Breckwell.com

What if I purchase a refurbished or second hand stove?
No credit is allowed. The credit only applies to the purchase of new equipment, where the taxpayer is the original user.

I purchased my Breckwell stove prior to the IRS announcement. Am I eligible to receive a tax credit?
Any purchase made and placed in service between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 will qualify.

Where may I view a copy of the applicable tax code?
www.irs.gov. Your tax advisor should also be able to provide you with a copy.

What if I buy multiple Breckwell stoves or have other qualifying expenditures?
The applicable credit allows for a maximum credit of 30% up to $1,500 for all purchases in aggregate for 2009; and 30% up to $1,500 again in 2010.
