- Wonderwood Stove works Review by From the Bronx to a hillbilly

Value Quality Price I bought my stove 2 years ago. we have it in our living room and let me tell you that this stove just kicks out the heat. We have a 11400 sq ft house and it heats the whole house no mater how cold it gets. It has been one of the best buys I have ever made.
I cut wood and split it about 18 to 22 inches, load it up at night before bed and by 5 am it's still going.
I would recommend this stove(Posted on 7/16/12)

Value Quality Price I purchased this stove to help lower my gas bill and it has done exactly that! I have it in the basement and the heat rises really well to help keep the upstairs nice and warm. I would recommend to anyone. The only down side is the stove went on sale $50 cheaper two weeks after I bought it. Great stove for the money.

- Bad! Review by Tiger0

Value Quality Price I don't know the number on our heater, but it is a new, just purchased last fall, source of heat for our home. I know all new wood heaters take a couple of times to burn off the paint and have an odor while this is happening. But ours eminates such a bad odor that at times we have to open the doors to breathe. I am really concerned about this awful smell and what it is doing to us.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?(Posted on 7/16/12)
- Nice Review by Bob

Value Quality Price I have one that must be about 30 years old and use it almost every day from Nov. 15 thru the middle of april. Not real pretty but very effective. I also leave the basement door open to allow the heat upstairs and we're good with it. I also this year installed a magic heat chimney thing and it made all the difference. Red oak made it all come together. It warms the house, not the air in it. Warm floors. Nice.

- Good heating , for the price . Review by Wood splitter

Value Quality Price I bought my Wonder wood a few years ago from R/K . I have central heat but the more I use the W.W. stove the lower my heating bills are .I burn only hard woods (Oak ,Sugar Maple, hickory and blight killed dogwood) cut at 20-23 inches so the burn time I get is about 5 + hours . My house is 1650 s.f. but is well insulated so the wonder wood heats it pretty well . Only draw back is the fact that there is no glass for fire gazing but if there were it would add to the price .

- Easy to like, but not efficient Review by Woodburner

Value Quality Price I inherited my Wonderwood with the purchase of my house and have no idea how old it is. All I can say it that it has held up well considering the stories my neighbors have told about the prior owner. My best guess on age is anywhere from 10-20 years old.
I use my Wonderwood to heat my 1200 sf home during the winter and while it is no shining star, it does do the job. It is installed in an uninsulated basement and I leave the basement door open to get the heat upstairs. Not an ideal installation. An uninsulated basement has an r-value of about 1, so you can see that it is almost like trying to heat the outdoors.
I love the side loading door. It is very large and swings wide to avoid an unintentional burn. I also love the shaker grate. A quick shake dumps ashes into the ash pan. How easy is that! The ash pan is also easy to service and comes out the same side as the load door. The thermostatic damper, though not very accurate, does a great job of regulating airflow and thus temperature. I can't even imagine a stove without one. I do burn sixteen inch firewood, which cuts down on efficiency. A person would be much better off cutting their firewood to 22".
It really goes through the wood. 3 hours of burn time is just about the max unless you turn down the thermostat, and then it doesn't put out much heat and puts too much creosote in your chimney.
I eventually plan to move this stove into my workshop where I think it will be perfect.
Likes: Large side loading door, big ash pan, thermostatic damper, accepts firewood up to 22", overall ease of use, great draft, exterior never gets hot enough to burn, very easy to maintain/clean.
Cons: about 2-3 hour burn time, heat output
The Wonderwood would work well for a family room, workshop, or such. Especially since it has a thermostat. Since the firebox is shielded, it would be ideal for someone with small kids who might bump into the front.
This thing is very, very, easy to use. A few more BTU's and I would love it.(Posted on 7/16/12)
