I am not a farmer, nor have I grown up on a farm. I bough jut this product to use on my subcompact JD tractor. The unit does the job, but....
The plow came on time but with no instructions. I went on-line and downloaded a cloudy set that did not go substantially go into how to set it up for use. The was noting about turi8ng the lift pins around from the shipping position, etc- There was no specification about what size top link pin to get (should have come with one! - it is 4 inches by-the-way with a 7/16 pin). Furthermore, I miss the craftsmanship that should come with an American product - the top link hole needed to be filed, and is oblong - did the shop not have a sharp drill bit? Also, one of the nuts for the u-clamp had the wrong thread pitch, necessitating a trip to the hardware store for a nylock nut. No instructions, poor on-line support, missing craftsmanship, absent hardware that should have come with the unit leaves me cold. The company should take a look at their quality control, perhaps a YouTube video on setup and use, and publish a clear list of tools and hardware needed for installation.
As far as performance goes, the plow did the job well. Unfortunately, there is no possibility of a coulter, as the JD hitch is a limited category 1. Perhaps some thought and inginuity can come up with a solution. The plow size was perfect for my 23hp mule.
So, overall, I recommend the device, but make sure you have access to spare parts, have material to read or view regarding setup and use, and time and patience to make some of the parts fit correctly. The choices for this size plow are very limited, so I am happy that Howse has this solutio

this plow is a good price. it works just like a plow should. the only negatives i have with it are the lack of instructions for how to finish the assembly. if i didnt have prior knowledge about plows this could have been a problem. also the quality of the workmanship was on the poor side only because the bolts used to secure the moldboard to the frame weren't properly seated in the bolt holes. the bolt holes in the moldboard hadnt been cleaned out enough for the bolts to set flush. a little file work took care of that. other than that i have no issues with it and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a plow for a sub compact tractor. this plow has met my expectations.

- Great Plow ... But a WARNING Review by Gary Anglea
Quality Price Value
On the Rural King's web site the picture shows that this plow has a 'Sod Cutter' on it. And although this bottom plow still is worth it's price and is an extra heavy duty plow, just be warned that it DOES NOT come with a sod cutter. Or at least mine did not. So I did not get what I was looking at. And for just a few extra dollars I could have bought this 'somewhere else' and bought the 'other' brand and it does have a sod cutter on it.
This is the reason why I don't like buying 'on-line'. I want to see what I'm buying before hand.

Product QuestionsWhat is the difference between a sub compact tractor and a compact tractor? I have a Yanmar 155d, 14 hp. Would this work with that?Question by: don on Jul 8, 2013 9:52:15 PMHello,
A compact tractor is a tractor that has a short wheelbase in relation to its available hp. It is more maneuverable, but more tippy due more front-back weight transfer. A sub compact tractor so far tops out under 25 engine horsepower and they wear a smaller tire then a normal compact. This Howse Implement Mini Mold Board Plow should work fine. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
