Poor Quality Review by Heath White

The pre emergent I was spreading got down to the gears of the spreader and made it so you couldn't turn the handle because the gears were jammed up. Only worked for 15 minutes and couldn't disassemble unit to clean or easily fix.

Unit was expensive for the poor quality of the item. Handle became jammed as the granules of fertilizer were dispensed. Had to rinse the unit each time . noticed handle is loose and the wheel warped.

Used for one season and got it out for the next and it broke on the first pass. I guess for the price you can not expect a lot but I thought it would last a few years.

I used it one time and it did not run properly; the drive gear does not run true and it strips on the little gear

Q & A

Questions on Scotts Handy Green II Hand Held Spreader 71133-1

  • From Tom Matthews at 5/7/13 7:57 AM
    • Q: what is the common setting for the hand held spreader, 1-2-3 or 4? I normally use the #3 setting. Is this to heavy? How do the settings on the hand held compair witht either the drop spreader or the broadcast as I have all 3? Thanks
    • Show Answer
    • A: Hello,
This spreader reduces wrist fatigue compared to other hand-held spreaders. Great for applying lawn seed and fertilizer - or ice-melting products in winter. Heavy-duty construction, rustproof hopper and agitator. I would say that setting 2 is the most commonly used but whatever seems to work best for you is what I suggest you go with.
      Thank you
