- Poor Manufacturer Product Support Review by Carl
Value Quality Price
I purchased a Mackinaw SS 15.6 Canoe. Upon delivery, the Trim Cap around the transom of my canoe was broken. The manufacturer, KL Industries, sent me a replacement part, which is different in design, requires new holes to be drilled, is too small to cover existing holes leaving open holes in the transom. The original end cap support is a one piece design while replacement is a two piece design, however, the cross support which is intended for the dual function of lifting the canoe and as a cross support to prevent collapse and provide structure, is smaller in size and does not fit around the existing side rail supports of the canoe. As a result, without extensive modification of he existing rail to reduce it in size to allow the cross member to fit properly, it will also reduce the strength of the side rail and make it more susceptible to collapse of the side of the boat, which is a plastic type material. It was explained to me by the manufacturer that they no longer provided the original part and that they were now only providing this one part as a replacement for two different size canoe's. The parts provided obviously do not fit the structure of this canoe and should be deemed unsafe. It should be noted that this canoe design is to support a small motor, however, I do not believe that it has been tested with the new transom plate design having only 50% of the number of fasteners and having 4 holes that remain unrepaired, two of which are completely exposed.
