Very disappointed. After spending time to put it together it broke on the 1st shot. Plastic tip snapped that holds the string on and the string started to unravel. The front site moves no matter how hard you tighten it so you'll NEVER be accurate even if it doesn't break.

i have bought 2 Jaguar's from Rural King. the first had a problem with being high right.. but after doing a tune on it with my trusty file i have it busting bulleyes all day long.. well, i decided to buy another for my brother. right out of the box bulleyes..

considering all in all i have to say this is the best low dollar bow on the market.. and with Rural King lowering the price down to $79.99 the 150 lb. bows can't touch this.. great job and who knows the price being $79.99 or lower i just might buy a third in appreciation for a good thing being shared.. :)

Silent and Deadly - very pleased. Review by Kevin

I have been a compound bow hunter and owned $500+ bows for years and believe I have a pretty good eye for quality. My sister bought a Wicked Ridge crossbow on sale for over $400 so, of course, I couldn't let her have all of the fun. I found this bow on this website and liked the reviews it received...and now I am confirming what I read. This is a great bow. And a crazy-good price. It looks impressive - great camo. Is easy to assemble. Fires straight and true. The slotted body/foregrip allows for easy mid-body carry while stalking, or sling it over your shoulder for the longer haul. Cocking the bow is not difficult, even without a cocking device (yeah, it takes muscles). My sister, her husband and my 19 year old son can't even come close to cocking the Wicked Ridge without a cocking device. I can confirm that the aluminum arrows (bolts) that come with it are good for one or two shots but that is the nature of aluminum arrows - once bent...always bent. Spend the money on Carbon bolts and accuracy and consistency will improve. The bow automatically switches into SAFE mode once cocked. The only way to dry fire is to pull the trigger without a bolt in...don't do that, and everything is fine. I looked at but never installed the Red Dot scope...I will at some point but the mechanical sights work great. This bow is not a toy - it is a killing machine or a fun target shooter.

all around great crossbow! My 15 year old son put it together and layed a green lazer pin light in the bolt rail to set scope and was hitting center of the bulls eye in 3 shots at 40 yards.

Going to get two more this week for my two ex-wives. Talking both to the woods for some target practice.....!!!!!

A delightful surprise Review by Randall Hawkins
Price
Value
Quality

I went in to this purchase honestly expecting a piece of garbage that I was going to end up returning to the store after firing 3 times. The truth was that this was fairly well built.

I have no crossbow experience, my experience is limited to recurves and firearms. After a few trial and errors setting up the scope (such as placing on backwards) I was able to zero in to shooting a silver dollar sized grouping with an occasional drifter within a couple feet, all from distances that ranged from 15 to 20 yards.

The penetration at the longer distances was surprising as well and almost held par to the penetration of my 57# recurve. This is expected since I have a long draw and shoot 30" arrows though.

I believe this bow is hunt worthy. My only concern is longevity, I don't know how this will perform say a year out yet.

I have not used this or even assemble it as it is a gift for my 10 year old son. But the price is rights, will be a good learning tool and way for me to see if he really likes crossbows and upgrade down the road. All in all, i like the other reviews, like anything else it will have issues but nothing is ever perfect.

Some issues but still decent Review by Sean

Got this a few weeks ago and used it once firing about 15 shots so far. Has a nice feel but a few issues. The camo paint chips off easily along the rail from using a rope cocking device but that's just superficial. The front site on mine is warped/bent so its not sitting directly centered on the rail. Lastly even though this is advertised as coming with a 3 dot scope with 7 brightness adjustments IT'S NOT. only came with a SINGLE DOT SCOPE which has a red and green setting and 5 level brightness adjustment which was disappointing. Someone should change that in the item description. It seems to shoot fairy accurately. Hopefully the limbs and plastic tips last but time will tell. Because you're only paying $100 it still seems like a decent deal

Really like it Review by Oneonserver

I've only had it a couple of weeks and only been able to shoot it a couple of times in my backyard, so only 15 yards out and it is dead on with the iron sites. I haven't used the scope yet, and from the reviews I don't have high hopes for it. I spent a long time with measuring and getting the bow centered, and that as previously noted was well worth the effort. Unfortunately it is not legal to hunt with it where I live, so for me this will be just for target practice, keeping the local zombie population in check, and disaster preparation. One note: get a rope cocker for it. Your Shoulder and collar bone will thank you!

Only fault I have is the bolt retainer is slightly off center and I keep wanting to center it, but can't figure out how or if I should.

I ordered The Jaguar Recurve Crossbow and I was very pleased with quality of the bow for the price. I think it will be a great addition to my hunting bow arsenal. I liked it enough that 5 days after I bought my first one I bought a second one for my son. I also purchased my second one from Rural King because they did such a good job shipping my first one and I couldn't beat the price they offered. Have no fears with either the bow or Rural King. I recommend both.

Quality Product Minus Some Minor Changes! Review by D. Whit
Quality
Price
Value

I have to be honest.... When I saw this crossbow I was extremely skeptical due to it being made in Taiwan and on Sale for $99.99! Sorry folks I like Made In The USA! After extensive research I found this crossbow is manufactured and marketed under various other brand names and sold from $99.99 to $169.99 depending upon the type and quality of scope & arrows and extras like an included bag, sling! One consistent thing I noticed was a strong rail, trigger & stock platform along with quality laminated limbs! I have to say once I got my crossbow home and unboxed I noticed a few negatives! First the nose bolt that holds the limbs to the stock was only a Grade 5 hardness bolt and lacked a lock washer to keep the nose bolt from backing out from vibration. I took a trip to my local hardware store and purchased a identical Grade 8 bolt and lock washer along with some blue (medium strength removable) loctite. One tip make sure to measure each limb from the outer tip to the outside edge of the center rail insuring both sides are equal. Secondly I noticed the crossbow string was of low quality! I ordered a replacement string from Crossbowfreaks.com which is sold as a replacement for the SA Sports Fever crossbow string at a 26.5 inch length! I went ahead and installed the factory string that came in the box and had bad results! After only 15 shots ,while lubing the string and rail every five shots, the string started fraying! Not wanting to risk damage to the crossbow or myself I removed it quickly and replace it with the one I ordered from Crossbow Freaks! One tip when installing your crossbow string is connect one end of your string to a limb and twist the string approx 5-10 time clockwise while attaching the second end to the other limb! First This allows the multiple strands of the string to wrap around each other creating a tighter string! Secondly when the crossbow is shot the tightly wrapped strands can take much more abuse vs strand that are just lying next to each other and being whipped against each other violently! I can't stress this enough USE ALOT OF RAIL LUBE ON YOUR RAIL AND STRING! Third when cocking your crossbow don't hand cock your bow..... most people don't evenly pull both sides of their string back and inadvertently cause same small cracks in the limbs which weakens or destroys the limb. I picked up a string cocking device up from my local box store for $11.99 and it cut the 175lb draw weight it half! Finally the aluminum bolts that came with the crossbow are total junk... two of my bolts broke at the plastic insert holding in the field points. I purchased some 20" carbon fiber bolts and they shoot like a dream Super Fast & Accurate! Currently I'm using the Red Dot Scope that came with the crossbow but its really only accurate out to 30 yards at a 3.5" pattern! I would highly recommend this crossbow to anyone looking for a decent entry level crossbow including my above mentioned changes! Please take your bow to a qualified service technician before making serious changes to your bow that might change the geometry! Happy Fun & Happy Hunting!

Almost Wonderful ... almost Review by MO Fiddler
Quality
Price

This is a nice crossbow with alot going for it , but there's a few things tripping up it's potential greatness ..... The Good : Lots of aluminum , built in some ways better then my totally plastic Barnett Xbow costing alot more....the Jaguar is plenty strong enough to kill deer ..... and real accurate if you buy quality bolts and a quality red dot sight seperately.... Lots of fun to shoot ... The Bad : Half of the included bolts were warped while still packaged inside the box ! The included red dot scope lasted about 2 days and then punked out on me , real junk ..... Also , there's no anti-dry fire mechanism- you can damage this bow easily if you accidently shoot it without a bolt on the rail ....
I like the adjustable scope mount on this xbow , its a great feature that should be advertised , it works really well in conjunction with a DECENT working red dot scope , you turn a dial on the mount to change the distance setting of the red dot , really cool and mine works great....my new string has also broken a few strands right after I put it on , so I'm keeping an eye on it ..... Mtech should offer this bow without the junky red dot , and without the junky dangerous bolts ,they are both a waste of time and money IMO .... instead , they should give you a couple extra strings ( good quality ) + a STRING PULLER , and design an anti-dry fire mechanism to be built in . I had to shop on my own for a string puller ,a decent red dot scope and decent bolts and I suggest you do the same , then it will become an awesome xbow for you .

Outstanding Value Review by Old Hunter

I bought the Jaguar crossbow after doing a lot of research. I hunt with a compound bow but wanted an alternative for Missouri's alternative deer season. This crossbow sets up easily. I've sold bows for a major sporting goods store. I set my red dot on the zero cant setting to align with my sight picture on the iron sight at 10 yards. Since I have 100 grain broadheads, I traded the 150 grain field points out for 100 grain field points. My first shot was a bullseye! At 20 yards and no sight modifications, I was dead center and 3 inches low. I turned the cant adjustment for the rail to 2 and fired again...A bullseye! At 30 yards I added one more click of cant. I fired 3 bolts and got a bullseye with bolts 2 and 3 just outside the bull at 3 and 9 o'clock. I am getting about 300 fps and the bolts are sinking into the target almost over the vanes. This crossbow will definitely work for deer hunting! You can't touch this performance without spending $300 on another brand. That means outstanding value!

Nice light weight crossbow for deer hunting Review by Daryl
Quality
Price
Value

Bought this for my 10 year old son to bow hunt with because his draw length on a regular bow is to short to get the energy needed to kill a deer.
He shot a doe his first week hunting with it. It was a qaurtering away shot @ 23 yards and the 16'' 2219 arrow with a machanical broadhead ( Rocky mountian gator) went in behind the last rib and penitrated to the far offside shoulder (about 20''). Tha deer took 2 jumps and fell over.
This bow is powerfull, quite, small and lightwieght. A great hunting bow. Not that I reconment long shots at deer but just to state the facts... this bow does have enough energy even at 60yds plus to pass through a deer if set up right.
We are shooting 2219 alum. arrows at 16'' long. I added a 50 grainsrew in weight to the back of the insert for a total arrow weight of 450 grains with a 100 grain broadhead.
The arrow leaves the bow at 212 fps (45 K.E.) and at 60yds it was chronographed at 193 fps (37 K.E.) . Since 30lbs. of kenetic energy is needed for a pass through on a deer this bow has more then enough even at 60 yards. So at normal hunting ranges of up to 30 yards or so,... this bow is up to the task !!!
I recommend a fixed blade broadhead unless you use a rocky mountian gator or now named The Redhead Gator (from Bass Pro Shop only) These were what the rage broadhead was designed after. Although the gator is a better design (takes less energy to fully open) it was not marketed right so they needed a whole new broadhead to do massive new marketing with... thus the rage.

problems with the crossbow Review by Frank
Price
Value
Quality

I recently purchased this crossbow and it was easy enough to put together. I am an experienced compound bow shooter and my nephew introduced me to shooting a crossbow. I was not sure how much I would like it, so I purchased this inexpensive recurve model. As I said before, it was easy to put together, however impossible to sight in the scope. On mine, there was not enough left-right adjustment. Maybe the mounting rail is misaligned, but there is not enough adjustment to center on target. Even when allowing for the left-right adjustment the bow shot a terrible pattern. At thirty yards, I shot a much, much tighter pattern with my compound bow. Another problem is the included arrows. One bowed the second time I shot it and another had the insert and field point come out when I removed the arrow from my broadhead target. The scope and arrows might be the problem with the terrible pattern, however I don't know if I want to invest in another scope and arrows and then find a problem with the bow too.

I was prepared to pay $100 more than I did for a Jaguar, then I found this one at Rural King - I've got other crossbows that cost more, but this Jaguar simply cannot be beat for the money! The assembly was quick and easy, and I took the time to measure each side of the limb to make sure it was centered. I used a laser sighter to set the scope and in a few minutes I was poppin' the bullseye! I'm using this bow to bag my first deer this year! I haven't used the chrony as of this writing, but this bow is plenty powerful and accurate! It's a well made, solid bow. Grab one!

Very impressed with this bow for the price. It groups out to 40 yards
with decent penetration and accuracy. Definitely slower speeds than
higher priced bows. Shoots 2 blade and 3 blade broad heads with
field tip accuracy. Recommend cut on contact broad heads {preferably 2 blade) because of the slower speed for hunting deer.
Wouldn't suggest taking shots at jumpy deer or deer that are looking
at you due to the "twang" sound it makes. Looking into some silencing options.

Great first bow! Review by Rebel
Price

This bow is a great deal. Instructions are very clear for an easy assembly. The bolts that come with it are horrible, definitely buy some 20" carbon bolts to go with it. The 20" carbon bolts shoot much better than the 16" aluminum bolts that came with the bow. The red dot scope is cheap, but functions just fine. I was able to achieve great grouping after just a few shots and adjustments to the scope. The bow comes with almost everything you need to get out in the field. The only "extras" I had to buy were broadheads, carbon bolts and a cocking rope. Unless you are VERY strong, you WILL need a cocking rope, even to string the bow. I am a 5'7" female, 180 lbs and couldn't get close to cocking it by hand. Neither could a 6'3" 240 lb man. The cocking rope makes it really easy. Do make sure you use Loctite when you assemble, the screws/bolts will work loose after several shots if you don't. It does come with rail lube, but no string wax. (I already had some from my compound bow.) This bow packs a punch that really surprised me. I highly recommend this bow for those that don't want to spend outrageous cash on a "BRAND" name bow.

This is a good little crossbow! And worth the money. Review by J. Roberts
Price
Value
Quality

I was quite surprised. No matter what people may say, this crossbow is a great buy. You don't have to spend alot to have a good accurate shooter. I know alot will knock the Asian crossbows and recommend $300-$500 xbows, but those little guys have been building bows and crossbows for centuries in Asia. Mine came with apparently an upgraded 6 bolt quiver that slides in and NOT twists and a 1 Dot instead of a 3 Dot. I like the 1 better. Build is sold. Feels good.Triger feels better than the Barnett Panzer and breaks comfortably. The string is a bit on the cheap side so an extra is always good and be sure to lube it after 5 shots. 26 1/2" string. Same as the SA Fever. The 4 bolts are a bit heavy being 125gr tips @ 16" of 2219 aluminum for a total weight of 393gr-407gr. Kinda heavy as I like mine in the 370-380 range and 17". But even the 16" will clear the end of the rail with a broad head. And that's something my Barnett Panzer wont do with 16" bolts. Even the Barnett 18"92216) cut down to 17" shoots great at 25 yards in the Jag and it groups better than the Barnett. I'll chrony it this weekend and check the fps but is comparable if not a tad faster than the Panzer. I'd keep critter shots to 30yd-35yd just because you'll see more drop over 30yd. I took about a dozen shots at the 30 yd and was shocked at the accuracy. All shots in the 2" bullseye or within 3-4" of it(probably me).But all would have been vital hits on a deer. I just clicked to the #3 position on the rail and gave it a go. An inexpensive butt-stock cheek pad from ebay with a zippered side pocket would be a great add on to keep the iron sights and wrenches and rope cocker in. Cocking can be done by hand but is a bit of a beast. It claims 175lb and I can tell it requires more than my Panzer 150lb. The rope makes it much easier. For a $129 Xbow you can't go wrong. Its lite, accurate and that's important with lower end xbows. Strings can be found at Amazon and few other places on the web, just keep the string lubed and it'll last. Hope this review helps. JR

Great shooter out of the box, red dot ok, but will probably not last long and needs to be careful not to hit it too hard. Buy a cocking string. I'm 6'2" and working on heavy equipment for a living, but cocking this bow is a good workout after loading 8-10 times. Plus since I bought this for my wife she cannot cock it on her own. Other than that it took 5 bolts to sight it in and on third shot my wife shot another bolt square in the back from 10 yds. This is her first time shooting a crossbow. It's is light enough for her to shoot comfortably.

This is an excellent crossbow for the money. No, it's not super expensive and it's not supposed to be. At 175 pounds, or even if it's actually 150 (I don't know if it is as many pounds as advertised), this crossbow will do fine with small game or just fun target practice. Maybe you're a new prepper looking for a quiet defense weapon that hasn't been outlawed in your state or you might be that guy/gal that wants to see if crossbows are as much fun as they seem on those TV shows.. Either way, this is an inexpensive way to explore.
***I highly suggest getting a rope cocking device. It adds a little to the expense, but you'll thank me later for taking my advice.

Been shooting bows since 1976 but my first Xbow. Great value. Easy assembly and functional. Lots of pop for a little thing. Accuracy is nice. I shot thru target and bolt bounced off tree and was bent just behind the tip. I guess 175lbs draw is legit. Loctite the fasteners and upgrade red dot scope. I got the cocking rope and some broad head tips. It's a legit hunting weapon.

My Jaguar crossbow was received in a timely manner and in great shape. The fit and finish of this crossbow is even better than I expected. All necessary items are included, i.e. safety glasses. For the price this is a great product with many reviews on Youtube.

Great crossbow for the price. Review by Silvertip

First off, I admit I did not buy this from Rural King. I bought it two years ago before RK started stocking them. If I ever need a replacement or a second one, RK will be my only source. Price is great and if you watch at local stores, these are sometimes discounted during sale events. As other reviewers have stated these are good solid crossbows. They are accurate; I shoot mine to 35 yds. With longer shots at game, you may find the noise of the release reaching the quarry before the arrow does. Game will then often spook resulting in a miss or poor hit. When you assemble the crossbow be sure to put some thread sealant on the socket screw that holds the bow and spacers to the stock. Otherwise vibration from successive shots may loosen the screw resulting in lost spacers and/or screw. This happened to me and it means an inoperative crossbow until replacement parts are found. I could not find any in the U.S., but did find them at a Canadian source. Took a few weeks to get them. Hey, RK, maybe you could become a source for repair kits and strings for this bow. The parts also fit the Fever crossbow that you carry. In any event, a good product that I recommend based on my experience with it.

Fantastic shooter, took down 2 - 30 point bucks with one shot. Gonna have to buy a reloader cause ammo for this is hard to get. Gonna go hunting black bear with it next week.

First crossbow for me. There is nothing hard to understand or set up, but there is a learning curve in any archery. Definitely need a cocking string. Kit is otherwise very complete. 4stars for quality? It's not a $1000 bow, but seems like good quality overall and a great value.

Easily assembled, shoots straight and strong. Red dot scope is so-so. Review by Greg K

This is my first foray into archery and my first and only bow. Assembly was easy enough. I was hitting the target right out of the box and had it shooting a 4 inch group in 30 minutes. The weight makes it easy to carry, but also feels like a quality piece. Fit and workmanship are above average and the balance is great. The red dot scope however seems to be of a lesser quality than the bow. The dots are not straight up and down when you look through, but it is accurate. I'll probably get a better scope in time. Otherwise, I'm pleased so far.

Kinda not sure at first but after easy assembly. It only took 5 shots and it was stacking bolts on the bullseye! Shots fast ant straight, with good impact at 30 yrds.

    • Q: If you do not recommend the Barnett Cocking device for this Crossbow, which one do you recommend. Also are replacement strings readily available or do you have to get them strictly from the manufacturer. You say that you only warrant the Crossbow for 30 days. How long does the manufacturer warrant them for against defects. The reason that I am asking is that I am thinking about purchasing 3 of these Crossbows from you but if replacement strings aren't readily available or if there is not a reasonably good warranty on them I will not waste my money. Thanking you in advance for your response.

    • A: Hello,
For this crossbow we recommend the Barnett cocking device. The replacement string is available through mastercutlery.com and the part number is: CRS-004C and comes with the end caps. Rural King provides a defect or damage warranty within 30 days of receipt. All Manufacturing Return Policies Supersede Rural King's Return Policy.

    • A: Hello,

I have checked with the manufacturer on this. They said that it is not an iron sight. It is a red dot sight.
