makes juicing easy Review by Jennifer Mobley

My husband removes the handle and hooks it up to a cordless drill to turn the crank. Made making juice a breeze with no blanching, peeling or deseeding. I think the value would be better if all the optional screens were with the unit from the beginning. Having to hunt the optional screens down after the main Strainer purchase was a task in itself.

We've not had any of the issues listed by other reviewers. Had no problems getting it put together, the instructions are direct and clear. You do have to tighten the clamp and crack every once in a while, that's expected. Blanching the tomatoes quickly and rough chopping them does make things easier.

You DO have to watch for seeds and skins sneaking into your pulp and juice bowl. Keeping the exit chute clear helps.

Over all, we've been very pleased with ours. We've made salsa (used the optional salsa screen) and spaghetti sauce with it for 2 years now. Would recommend.

steering wheel keeps falling off ! Review by mom in MN

If this was a car, I'd say it all works beautifully, just lovely, except one little bitty detail: the steering wheel keeps falling off! but that's not a problem, right??? ..... I just bought a brand new Saucemaster & am SO disappointed. The ones my friends have are older, & work fine, but this one won't clamp to my table! the clamp-screw part gets almost tight enough but still allows a lot of wobble, and it refuses to tighten any further. I cant't use this, I'd need a 3rd hand to hold the unit into the table. Sheesh. VERY disappointing. I don't need a setback like this during canning season. I'll return this one to the store in the morning & hope I can find one that will work... you can bet I'll be testing any others before I take them home this time. :-( Do yourself a favor, & check to see if it works before you take it home.

This strainer is a Victorio wanna be, and it sadly isn't. Review by MJ

I got this because it looked alot like the food strainer my mom had when I was a kid... but after purchasing... and processing my tomatoes, it was clear this was not what my mom had. In fact she had a Victorio strainer... and that is what you should buy folks... if Rural king knew what was good for them they would carry them. My mom got hers at a Farm store in my hometown.. I ended up buying a Victorio, and am the happiest I've ever been... you can even get a screen for Salsa, and an electric motor as options.
I learned my lesson... hopefully this will benefit others as well.
The review above... is totally true to my experiences as well.

good on cherry and large tomatos Review by tomato king

Has it's good points and bad.
Good points - It makes short work of cherry and other tomatos - just cut cherry tomotos in half, drop them in and crank. Best to use a 9x13" Non-stick pan to catch the juice and sauce. The pulp and seeds come out the end. Run that thru again to get all of the fluid out. Then just slow boil down to a sauce consistency. It will do 30 lbs of cherry tomatos in about 1 hour. Looking forward to doing all of our pumkins this fall. To do hard fruits (like apples and pears), you will defintely need to cook them first to soften up. Otherwise the auger may have problems. Cranking isn't too difficult, and does not require high speed to process tomatos. Use the plunger a bit if it seems "stuck", and no pulp is coming out the end of the screen.
Bad points - The shield is too long, and is too close to the discharge end of the screen. As a result, you may have some pulp and seeds fall into the sauce coolection pan if you are not careful. With tomatos, you probably don't need the shield, as they really do not shoot liquid out. Also, use a bottle brush to clean the screen after using. Wash and dry thouroughly, as the spring is "spring steel" (suprise!) and will rust.
Wants - a slightly better clamp system, better shield design, accessory motor with foot pedal (like a sewing machine).
