Will buy again Review by charlie

I have had chickens for 25 + years , Hatched my own peeps had hens set on them, hatched from incubator, home made and store bought . also purchased from other farm stores till rural king came to our community.
Very healthy chicks, even after my 100 lb dog broke into the pen and destroyed the pen, I thought these birds are all going to die, after some TLC both to the peeps and the pen they are all still living even the dog....
One of the peep required some stitches in his abdomen after I reinserted 4 inches of gut with a Q tip and sprayed with bl coat.
All I can say is these are healthy Chicks or they would not of survived that ordeal.............Thanks Rural King I wish you would have come to our area 25 Years ago.

A friend of mine told me she gets most of her chicks from Rural King so I figured I would give it a shot. I got 20 pullets (6 "Americanas", 2 black Australorps, a gold and a silver laced Wyandotte, 5 buff orpingtons, and 5 barred rocks) and 2 RIR roos. They're all healthy and doing well! Very pleased!

Great Egg Layers Review by Lori

This is the second year I have gotten Rural King birds. Last year I got straight run and ended up with 3 roos out of 8 but this year I bought pullets. My girls from last year lay an egg daily 98% of the time. I have only lost 1 hen, I believe she got egg bound and I didn't catch it in time. This years girls are only 5 weeks old and they all are very healthy happy birds. I will continue to buy from here. No complaints!

Not so good!!! Review by April

Went to rural king in Lafayette. They had some chicks marked down to .75, some $1.50 and then regular priced. I got 10 of the .75 they told me it was because they have too many of that bred. I've lost 4 out of the ten and have 2-3 weak ones that won't eat or drink. I called the store and the cashier told me I needed to give them electrolytes that's the reason most of theirs dies. I told her I did and they still aren't doing the greatest. I'm suppose to go back in and get 4 refund chicks. I will never buy chicks from Rural King again!!!

Purchased these early March, they have doubled in size over this month and they are thriving, no deaths and we are worried that a few may be roos, but unsure so far

Rural King employees have been highly informative and were willing to offer money saving tips rather than just try and get every sale they could.....good purchase, great store!

THE TRUTH Review by BIG MOTHER HEN FARM

I bought 6 pullet four of them died. however, their death was due to poor information on raising chickens. but I can say this, with the two I have alive, they've significantly reduced the amount of eggs I buy from the grocery store.
they don't require much care, a grazing ground and water, a safe place to lay egg.
99.9 percent of the pullets that die are not a result of rural king selling bad chickens. it is a result of poor and insufficient care

Not sure where to begin... Review by SJoseph

I feel uneasy giving a poor review when so many have had a good experience with their pullets.
I have been raising pullets for about 5 years now, and typically have about 70 - 80 layers going.
So when I wanted to order from my favorite hatchery and found out they were out, I went to my next favorite and found the same thing. On and on. Well, I called up Rural King and they were out of what I wanted so I ordered from them online.
I got them on time, and they looked fine. They were a mish-mash of breeds but that's what I expected. After the first night I lost one Black Sex Link...it happens. A few weeks later - after I moved them in the coop with the other girls, I lost another Black Sex Link! Then a Buff Orpington went down. All for no apparent reason.
All in all, I have lost 5 of the 10 Black Sex Links. And a bunch of the girls are just small, almost scrawny.
I have gotten a few ISA Browns and turkeys from the Rural King near me with good success, so I don't know what the difference could be.

We bought 24 pullet chicks from the Rural King store, and lost only one. Of all of them, we really did get all pullets! They laid well into their second year before we sold them. Can't wait for Rural King to get more varieties in in the Lafayette Store.

I bought 6 pullets egg layers from the store, many months later have found out that there are 5 roos and 1 layer. I paid more for the egg layer pullet and now have 1, if I wanted to take a chance with roos then I would have bought the staright run for cheaper.

I scavenged the internet looking for cheap, good laying chick breeds. Other places, like cackle hatchery were great, just .50 cents more that included shipping. I was tempted, but I decided to visit rural king and they had the rare breed that I was looking for. It was around 2.00 and I was thrilled! I bought 25 chicks, so far, so good. No illness yet. 2 had pasty butt, but you can't help that! :)

After being warned about low quality, sickly chicks, we took a chance on the last 6 chicks in the store. They were heavily discounted and were the rejects various types of chicks the store carried. Well, almost a year later and they are all healthy, happy and the 4 hens are laying an egg a day! Very Very happy with them and cant wait to get more when they show up this spring.

Can you list the breeds that the hatcheries most often supply Rural King with for in store sale? We purchased a variety of chicks at the new Rural King in Xenia, OH. They are fun robust birds, but they are all different, and we are having a hard time identifying them.
