Sanders come in many sizes, variable speeds and different shapes. The belt sander holds a belt of sandpaper, and turns, pushing dust behind the sander, either into a bag or onto the floor. The belt sander does require two handed operation for a smooth, even finish. An orbital sander has a round pad of sandpaper, attached to the flat bottom- the sander "spins" in a circular motion, sanding smooth the rough edges and finishing out projects nicely. A palm sander is a smaller sander, designed for one or two hand use. It vibrates just enough to provide a soft finish on smaller projects. All of these hand sanders have a cord for power. The sandpaper they use is available in several different grades, making them versatile for most jobs, large and small. The sanders are small and lightweight, making them portable to job site and around the workshop. Some sanders have polishing attachments as well.
