Rated 3 out of 5 by from Somewhat disappointed Calibration is way way off. It dispenses way too much fertilizer. Spreader setting on the Turf Builder bag was 3.5. I went through about 1/3 of a bag on about 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn. I finally had it turned down to less than 2 in order to complete the remaining 4,000 sq. ft. of lawn with the rest of the bag (12,000 sq. ft. bag from Costco). There should have been a calibration tool included with the spreader like there was on my 20 year old Scotts drop spreader. So far nothing has broken or fallen off but it's only less than a year old, time will tell. I do like the wide swath that it dispenses and the edge guard. Now that I've got the setting dialed in I guess I'll keep using it but it still "aint right".

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Update to previous review I have to give Agri-Fab 5 stars for their response to my previous review. They read my review, immediately contacted me and went out of their way to send my replacement part free. I got the spreader together and working. I am happy with the spreader operation. Nice balance and easy operation and setting. Good throw distance to the sides. I did have trouble with the back support feet catching and ripping out my St Augustine so I bent the flattened foot portion 180° towards the back. That works fine now. I also changed the R-clip in the feeder basket that rotates around. It is too far from the feed opening. I used a longer one that sweeps over the flow control slide plate and clears jams better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not buy again This product has almost ALL PLASTIC inside. This it my second Scotts spreader. I have approx 1 AC of lawn. I spread lime each year. It claims to hold 1 bag but the spreader inside wheel/agitator is not firm/strong enough to get thru the pellets and breaks. Went onto website & could not find repair parts, seems unavailable have to buy a new one. It does a great job with light stuff like seed but not anything more substantial.Tires are good idea. Buying any competitor is CHEAPER at almost any price due to breakdown/replacement/aggravation cost. Just make sure inside is NOT PLASTIC. Will NEVER buy again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Thought I bought a professional spreader. What I like... 1) Inflatable tires (although they are small). 2) Edge Guard. What I don't like... 1) Snap fit wheel/axle connection that drives the impeller. On first use, tire would spin but impeller would not. Had to troubleshoot to figure out why impeller wasn't spinning. I disassembled and added duct tape to axel in order to get the impeller to spin. 2) If the fertilizer is not of uniform size or has clumps, the flow control door can and does jam in the open position and will not close. 3) Speader pattern throws more product to the left side, than the right side. I'm curious whether Scotts actually field tests their spreaders, in real world use?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't Buy... The overall quality of this spreader is good. I have approx 1 acre lot. I purchased it approx. 18 months - 2 years ago and it seemed to operate finely until suddenly it began making a clicking sound & the right wheel began to slide & not rotate while the left wheel rotated freely. I certainly did not anticipate such a short operating life after paying a premium price for it. What good is it if the wheels won't properly rotate?! I wouldn't reccomend buying a new spreader every 18 months - 2 years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Feed does not shut off when you release the lever I purchased this unit hoping it would be better than the one I already have, which is also a Scotts spreader. While spreading this morning the 'feed door' would not shut when I released the feed lever when I reached the end of a run. It did this at least ten times. I do like the feature of shutting down the right side for trimming and when working properly it was a great unit. The problem of the feed not shutting off in the past, and I assume I will see the same problem now, is that it kills the grass when you get so much fertilizer in one spot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wanted to love this spreader but it's sucky... I've tried using this spreader a few times in the fall, and this winter to put down ice melt. On all occasions I had issues with it. Both involved engaging and releasing the spreader handle. On multiple occasions, I would engage the handle, and the chute to spread product would not open. After trying to finagle, shake, etc., the spring would snap open and then work. I mean it really sucked when I would push and see no product coming out. On other occasions, when releasing the handle, the chute remained open and the fertilizer continued to spread despite releasing the handle. This spreader cost to much to have these issues during the first uses. I also had a problem with a cheaper Scotts spreader which led me to this one. I thought this would be better quality but it is not. I'd look around if I was looking for a spreader.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in the poor quality I purchased this spreader with balloon tires and the edge guard features thinking that it was an upgrade to my previous Scotts Spreader that I gave to my neighbor. Every time I go to use it the tires are flat, today the spinner came off, when I put it back on the drive wheel seems to bind up and does not want to turn easily. There also is a grinding noise in the gear box, like fertilizer is inside. Not what I expected at all, very disappointed. Now I need to borrow my old spreader from my neighbor.
